Phoenix Canoe Club run regular river trips to suit a range of abilities from novice to intermediate and beyond. Introductory Level 1, Paddle Discover or One Star paddlers can attend “Adult Paddles” for over 18’s or “Big Day Out Paddles” for all ages, generally on flat water with the odd section of excitement – a drop, slide or rapids – all of which can usually be portaged around. At Intermediate Level 2, Paddle Explore or Two Star ability level, the list opens up to include a range of rivers generally with good sections of grade 2 water with rapids, weirs, small drops and features. We also run regular trips to the Lee Valley Whitewater Centre, where you can be coached on the Legacy Course before you take your LVWW Assessment and then work up to the Olympic course. At White Water Award or Three Star level, most trips are open to you, with grade 3 features introduced into the mix and some paddling on rivers abroad available.
We can train you up to Whitewater Award through an introduction course and taking part in a few whitewater trips. Progressive White Water paddlers are trained to paddle up to Grade 3-4 whitewater rivers and Advanced White Water Award paddlers up to Grades 4-5 (Both of these awards have to be done with outside providers). You can progress at your own speed through the awards schemes or use the foundation strokes learnt on the Introductory Level 1, Paddle Discover or One Star award for recreational paddling. Feel free to discuss your requirements with the coaching team.
Weekend trips generally include transport, accommodation, food, coaching and equipment. Accommodation can vary from camping, static caravans, bunkhouses, chalets and hotels. We will always attempt to keep genders and age ranges in separate rooms. The size of trip may be limited by coaching staff availability, size of accommodation, transport issues etc. Book early to ensure you get a place. All trips have been published with the date the bookings site shuts. We may be able to take additional people after this date, but you will need to contact the trip leader to find out if there are still places available.
All trips are very dependent on weather and river conditions and we cannot guarantee that we paddle or use the advertised rivers. We may be able to substitute suitable alternative rivers.
When you book onto a trip, we need to capture certain personal information. We need this so that we can contact you and be aware of any particular needs to run the session or course effectively and safely.
