SOCA RIVER TRIP, SLOVENIA 2026

We haven’t booked the Slovenia Trip for 2026 yet, however, have left details below from our 2024 trip as a guide:

Slovenia is a wonderful paddling destination. The Soča river is very popular and famous for its beautiful scenery and crystal clear water. With purpose built launching and egress points for kayakers, it is one of the best rivers in Europe to paddle.

We will be flying out to Italy and then driving to Bovec, nestled in the Slovenian Julian Alps. All of the equipment and luggage is driven out by van and we hire cars to provide transport in Slovenia to the rivers. We will stay in a comfortable self-catered chalet in shared rooms (2-3 beds) in Bovec, only 10 minutes drive away from Slovenia’s finest white water, the Soča river. The trip will include some whitewater safety training and various grades and sections of the Soča.

The Soča has a wide range of grades along the way and we tend to paddle short sections of one grade at a time, making it accessible to a variety of paddlers (the one shown above is at the tougher end of the scale). We can also arrange other activities through our contacts in Slovenia including mountain biking, rafting, canyoneering, tubing, hiking and sightseeing. We would recommend that you are at Whitewater Award / 3* ability (or training towards it) to paddle the river in a kayak.

Places can be reserved with a £150 deposit – there are just 13 spaces available.

Trip Date: TBC June 2026 (dates may suit students after GCSE / A Level exams)

Purpose of Trip: Whitewater Paddling, Recreational, Sightseeing, Fitness

Minimum Ability Level: Good level White Water Award / 3 Star with 30 hours whitewater experience.

Equipment: Free use of Club boats and your own whitewater equipment. You should have all of your own whitewater specific clothing and equipment.

Cost: £550 for PCC members only plus flights (all participants must be members of Phoenix Canoe Club). Cost includes all transport (except UK and flights) accommodation, kayak and luggage transport, catering and coaching. A £150 deposit secures your place. Two evening meals will be at your own expense at a nearby restaurant.
