We are running a trip to North Wales staying at a bunkhouse near Bala on Friday & Saturday evening. On the Saturday we are planning to paddle the lower section of the Tryweryn from the National Whitewater Centre at Frongoch down to Bala. The river is a classic Grade 2+ river with one Grade 3 feature and one at Grade 4 that can be portaged. On the Sunday we will either paddle some short Grade 2 / 3 sections of the Upper Tryweryn or the River Dee at Llangollen. We will be travelling by minibus / private cars. Alternative rivers may be available subject to level of ability and suitable coaching cover.
The trip is open to good Intermediate Level 2, Paddle Explore Award or Two Star paddlers, White Water Award trainees and above. You should find this challenging but within your ability. We will split up into small groups and have planned that each group will practice moving water skills on the rapids. All activities are very dependent on weather and river conditions and we cannot guarantee that we paddle or use the advertised rivers.

We have arranged an exciting programme with additional adrenaline-filled activities that everyone can enjoy. We have arranged it on a “pick n’ mix” basis that can be flexible to suit your abilities and wallet.
Activities – Canyoneering and White Water Rafting are being lead and run by Rhos y Gwaliau Outdoor Centre and National Whitewater Centre respectively. They will provide all necessary equipment including helmets and wet suits.
Kayaking – Kayakers should be at the appropriate level of training for the Lower Tryweryn trip (6kms) at Grade 2(3) with one Grade 4 section that can be portaged. The Upper Tryweryn is shorter but more demanding, with plenty of Grade 3(4) water running at 9-10 cumecs (cubic metres per second).
