WHITE WATER AWARD INTRO COURSE – KAYAK

Your White Water award endorses your skill, judgement and decision making to ensure a successful day on rivers up to Grade 2. You will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys on moving water with proficient skills to be in control throughout. Your award should be seen as a sound basis for building the experience and knowledge associated with Progressive White Water Award holders.

Course Dates for 2023:

• Saturday 11th March 2023 – White Water Award Intro at Phoenix CC  – This half day introduction covers the transferable flat water skills of the award and includes some theory training on white water paddling. The cost includes the BC fee for the award including a downloadable Certificate and registration on the database. To complete the award you need to book onto white water trips that we are running throughout the year and we would recommend trips to the Derwent, Wye, Dart Loop, Lower Tryweryn and Lee Valley. When we feel you are at the required standard, we will assess you and if successful, register the award with British Canoeing. The amount of training you require will depend on your current ability and readiness to learn and progress. You will need to be able to roll your kayak as part of the assessment. Open to Club Members only – Registration Fee – £30 for BC Members / £40 for non-BC Members.

• Sunday 19th March 2023 – Whitewater Intro – River Derwent – We visit this small section of whitewater in Matlock, Derbyshire which provides some ideal features for training in basic whitewater skills. This is a great river for whitewater beginners and also for more advanced paddlers to hone their skills. Cost £30 PCC Members (all ages) / £40 (non-members – adults only) including transport.
