We also run a series of river trips throughout the year, both flat water and whitewater in the UK, Europe and beyond. With Lee Valley Whitewater Centre just half an hours drive away, we can get you started on a whitewater training programme as soon as you have developed the basic skills.
Membership is by successfully completing our Introductory Level 1 Kayak or Canoe Course, or already holding that award, BC Paddle Discover, 1 Star or higher. This ensures that all paddlers on club days are at a minimum standard and helps us maintain a safe operation. There are Taster sessions run throughout the season to allow members of the public to have a go at kayaking, canoeing, SUP’ing, sailing or windsurfing. Most of our training is aimed at flat water, surf and whitewater recreational paddling.
We are based at the Phoenix Outdoor Centre and use the Welsh Harp reservoir under license from and as a Constituent Body of the Welsh Harp Sailing Association. Always check the calendar and Newsletter to see if we will be at the club as we are quite often out on river trips, surf trips or pool sessions, especially when the reservoir is restricted to Sailing Clubs for national races. We are located on Woodfield Park playing fields accessed from Cool Oak Lane, West Hendon, NW9 7ND. Park in the car park by the entrance and walk down the path to the Club House, which is located by the reservoir.
We are accredited with Sport England’s ‘Clubmark’ which is built around a set of core criteria which ensure that accredited clubs operate to a set of consistent and accepted minimum operating standards. It is now universally recognised by clubs wishing to show good practice and demonstrate commitment in developing young people within their club. It is promoted and carefully branded, by Sport England.
The Club House has changing and toilet facilities, club room with kitchen and externally a slipway, pontoon and storage facilities for the club equipment. We have a large range of kayaks including whitewater, slalom, freestyle, surf, sit-on-tops, sprint, stand-up paddle boards and open canoes. We can provide buoyancy aids, cagoules, wet suits and helmets for all novice paddlers.
